Our Work // Salvia
About our client
Salvia BioElectronics is a medical device company pioneering neuromodulation therapies for migraine. Salvia’s unique, paper-thin implant is designed to reduce the frequency and intensity of migraine attacks by delivering gentle electrical pulses to the nerves associated with the condition. The company is currently in the clinical stage of development. Salvia has received the Breakthrough Device Designation from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which facilitates expedited market access for devices that treat life-threatening or irreversibly debilitating conditions. Salvia’s device is not yet approved for commercial use. They make no claims about safety or effectiveness.
End-to-End Integration Testing based on BDD
The implant of Salvia is a flexible bioelectronic foil placed just under the skin, near the nerves associated with migraine. By sending mild electrical pulses through the foil, they aim to effectively calm the nerves and prevent and relieve migraine symptoms. Patients can manage their own migraine treatment with a small, portable device called “MySalvia device”. This external device interfaces with the implant to activate the neuromodulation therapy, tailored to the patient’s needs. In addition to the MySalvia device, patients will be able to monitor their progress and access personalized migraine treatment through the MySalvia app. The device is powered by bare-metal firmware, which runs directly on a distributed embedded microcontroller system. This architecture ensures precise real-time control, optimized performance, and efficient management of the system’s hardware, crucial for delivering personalized migraine treatment.
Objective: The assessment focused on developing an automated, end-to-end testing strategy for Salvia’s migraine neuromodulation system, ensuring system integration and reliability across all components—implant, external device, and mobile app.
Deliverables:
- A structured Test Architecture with specific work packages.
- Python-based Proof of Concept for app testing.
Constraints:
- No modification of source code.
- Hardware modifications allowed for testing purposes.
- Integration with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipeline.
Solution: We proposed a BDD-based testing strategy to automate system-level tests, utilizing Appium for cross-platform app testing. This approach provides reusable test steps, app simulation capabilities, and ensures comprehensive testing without source code changes. This solution offers scalability and confidence in Salvia’s device performance as they progress through clinical development.
Our Work // ITEC
Overcoming Testing Challenges in Semiconductor Equipment
About our client
ITEC combines cutting-edge equipment and expertise with 30+ years of semiconductor manufacturing experience. With an installed based of 2500+ advanced tools, ITEC enables sustainable testing and assembly at the world’s fastest rates.
Their advanced systems provide mechatronics, accurate test electronics, inspection algorithms, and smart data handling. Understanding daily manufacturing challenges is crucial for high productivity, throughput, and quality.
Testing challenges
Imagine a system where every mechanical part, motor, sensor, and actuator is controlled by software. However, this software, built decades ago, struggles to keep up with the evolving machine landscape. It poses challenges in terms of decoupling and testability, blocking innovation. Our team understands the importance of addressing these obstacles head-on.
We empower the software community by helping them establish robust software unit tests using techniques such as test isolation and dependency injection patterns. In addition, we drive test automation within the V-model framework. By implementing these practices, we create a deeper understanding of the quality of our clients products’ (Automatic Die Attach). This ensures that they not only meet, but exceed the expectations of their clients.
Our Work // ELEO
Scaling up advanced battery technology for mass production
About our client
ELEO is a battery technology company on a mission to accelerate the widespread electrification of industrial machines and vehicles. To achieve this goal, ELEO utilizes advanced technology to design and manufacture high-performance battery systems and solutions. Their unique modular approach offers customers flexibility with complete Plug & Play battery systems, including easy installation and smart features for optimized power, performance, safety, and lifespan.
Test Assessment and secondment
ELEO used our Test Assessment to gain crucial insights into their software’s performance and gave us very good feedback on the process and outcome. Here are quotes from the Product Owner and Senior Software Tester:
“The test assessment expanded our vision to see testing through the full development life cycle.”
“High Tech Testing helped us focus on designing for quality.”
ELEO also hired one of our software testers to provide hands-on work with implementation of the test roadmap. Such as developing automated pipelines and establishing a scalable testing architecture. And in addition to optimize the Hardware in the Loop (HIL) setup.
